Three Charlotte County Commissioners Are Up For Re-election

Friends.  This is Percy Angelo.  This is a heads up that this year three County commissioners are running for reelection.  Last spring Commissioner Joe Tiseo was important in supporting the adoption of a limit on density in West County/Cape Haze.  (The Tiseo Amendment).  He has also been a thoughtful voice in reviewing development proposals.  I am supporting him for reelection and encourage you to investigate for yourself and support him as well.

Even though the Commissioners must reside in their particular district they are elected county-wide.  That means all county voters can vote in the general election for candidates within or outside their district.  And, as demonstrated by the Tiseo Amendment, commissioners from outside districts are frequently important in protecting the interests of a district.

In Florida the first vote is the primary on August 20, with mail-in and early voting happening before.  Tiseo is running as a Republican which means that the Republican primary is key.  In fact many candidates are effectively elected in the primary.  Because it takes place in August many snowbirds never vote and the primary winner is often elected by an embarrassingly small percentage of the population. (Only 3.22% of eligible voters voted according to the Supervisor of Elections website).  But this means that, more than ever, EVERY VOTE COUNTS.

Make sure your registration is up to date and, if necessary, you have requested a vote by mail ballot.  These have to be requested for every general election cycle.

Tiseo has a Republican opponent in the primary and a Democratic and Independent opponent in the General election in November.  I don’t know any of them and there is no information about them on the Supervisor’s website.

You can find the Supervisor of Elections website by searching Charlotte County Supervisor of Elections.  Go to the website to check your registration and request a vote by mail ballot if you need one.

Commissioner Tiseo’s website is https://www.joetiseo.org.  I’m sure he would also welcome a donation which you can make through the website.  He also has information on the County Supervisor’s website.

And feel free to forward this to friends who might be interested.

Thanks,

Percy
