Lemon Bay Conservancy is launching a new Lemon Bay Coastal Seminar Series featuring researchers who are leaders in their respective fields sharing fascinating presentations on coastal topics. The first seminar is Thursday January 25th: “The Endangered Sawfish of Florida: Past, Present, and Future” – a critically endangered species occurring locally that has a “sixth sense” and grows to over 20 feet in length! Our presenter will be Tonya Wiley, President of Havenworth Coastal Conservation.
The seminars take place at the Cape Haze Community Center with refreshments at 5:30 PM and the presentation at 6PM. There will be announcements and a quick LBC annual meeting just prior to this first presentation.
Monthly seminars to follow include:
February 22nd: “The Mysterious Manta Rays of Florida” – Jessica Pate, Lead Scientist, Florida Manta Project
March 14th: “Blooms of Blue-green Algae and Red Tide in South Florida” – Dr. Larry Brand, Professor, University of Miami Rosenstiel School
April 11th: “Roseate Spoonbills In Florida Bay – A Pink Canary in a Coal Mine” – Dr. Jerry Lorenz, State Director of Research, Florida Audubon
